Whether you live in the woods or in the city, nature is all around us! Join us on May 6 and 7 and get outside to notice the wonder of spring; identify as many plants and animals as you can; share what you find, and raise money to support education for a healthy planet!
Enjoy a beautiful weekend outside exploring nature. Whether it’s noticing the trees and squirrels in your neighborhood, or finding rare species of birds (this will be nearly the peak for bird migration) or woodland flowers on a local hiking trail (some spring ephemerals will still be out) enjoy getting out and finding nature all around us, Whether you are a lifelong naturalist or simply want to appreciate and learn what’s in your neighborhood Flora & Faunathon is for you! If you like, you can even compete for prizes. Can you find the most bird species? Or raise the most money? Take the coolest picture? Come celebrate with us and see what we’ve all found on Sunday, May 7, 2-4pm.
Gather your friends, family, and neighbors and explore your neighborhood, your backyard, nearby hiking trails, or a city park. Get your networks to sponsor your explorations and help support the Hitchcock Center's work developing hopeful, creative problem solvers who can take on the challenges of climate change.
Raise pledges to support the Hitchcock Center’s mission to educate and to inspire action for a healthy planet. Hitchcock Center staff will assist in setting up a peer-to-peer fundraising page that can be linked to in an email that you send to your family, friends, colleagues and neighbors.
There will be a culminating event on Sunday afternoon at the Hitchcock Center’s beautiful Living Building and grounds for everyone who has registered to participate! There will be snacks, music, and fun prizes.
Prizes will be awarded for:
The Hitchcock Center is not just teaching about climate change, it’s helping people develop the skills needed to create climate solutions and foster climate resilience by helping them to reconnect to and learn from nature’s efficient and sustainable systems, to develop a problem-solving mindset, and to shape a positive vision for the future. We are developing hopeful, creative problem-solvers who can take on the challenges of climate change.
The Hitchcock Center provides opportunities for people of all ages to develop a relationship with nature; we are leading sustainable engineering and design challenges for youth; we are teaching communication, organization, and leadership skill-building for teens; we are convening adults for discourse and civic engagement around climate change and sustainability; and we are continuing to broaden our reach to include communities that are disproportionately impacted by climate change.
